Nollywood actress and filmmaker Toyin Abraham has rejected her inclusion in the Lagos State All Progressives Congress (APC) Campaign Council, hours after her name appeared alongside prominent entertainers in the party’s 33-member Entertainment and Creative Economy Directorate.
The list, released on Thursday, September 17, by the Kadri Obafemi Hamzat Media Centre, includes several well-known figures from Nigeria’s film and music industries as part of the Lagos APC campaign structure ahead of the 2027 general elections. The campaign council is scheduled for inauguration on Friday, September 18, at the APC Secretariat on ACME Road, Ikeja.
Among those named are veteran actor Jide Kosoko, actresses Eniola Badmus and Bimbo Akintola, and Fuji musicians Wasiu Alabi Pasuma, Abass Akande Obesere and Adewale Ayuba. Other prominent names on the list include Adebayo Salami, Saheed Balogun, Bukky Wright, Fathia Balogun, Yinka Quadri, Tayo Sobola, Abiola Adebayo and Foluke Daramola.
The Entertainment and Creative Economy Directorate is headed by Toke Benson-Awoyinka as Director, with Jide Kosoko serving as Co-Director and Eniola Badmus as Deputy Director. Akeem Alimi, popularly known as Ajala Jalingo, is listed as Secretary, while Dare Olateju is the Assistant Secretary.
The directorate also includes musicians such as Sulaimon Alao Adekunle, popularly known as Malaika, Akorede Babatunde Okunola, known as Osupa, and Temitope Adekunle, popularly known as Small Doctor, alongside Sule Adiro Ataweye, Yemisi Falaye, Leke Babatunde Akinrowo, Kayode Fahm and Aruna Ishola.
However, Toyin Abraham has since made it clear that she does not accept the political role attributed to her.
In an Instagram Story on Thursday, the actress said she was not a member of any campaign council and asked the public to disregard the inclusion of her name.
“I’m not a member of any campaign council. I have said it recently. I am staying out of politics. Please disregard the supposed inclusion of my name in any campaign committee,” Abraham wrote.
Her response means that although her name appears on the campaign council document released by the Lagos APC media team, she has publicly distanced herself from the appointment and stated that she intends to stay out of politics.
The development comes after Abraham’s previous public involvement in political discussions. In 2024, she said she would no longer publicly disclose her political affiliation following the backlash she faced after supporting President Bola Tinubu during the 2023 presidential election.
The Lagos APC campaign council includes several other entertainers who have been publicly associated with political activities, particularly within Lagos’ large Yoruba film and music communities. Their inclusion places members of the entertainment industry within one of the campaign structures being assembled ahead of the 2027 elections.
