Nigeria’s longest-running television drama is back. Tinsel has returned for its landmark 19th season on Monday 3rd August 2026, with brand-new episodes airing every weekday at 7:30pm WAT on Africa Magic Showcase on DStv channel 151 and GOtv channel 8.
When Tinsel first premiered on 1st August 2008, it aired bi-weekly and was available only on the DStv premium bouquet. It immediately gained traction not only for its high production values but for its captivating plot twists, and it quickly became a fan favourite across the continent. It was the first Nigerian soap opera to use a multi-camera setup for production, and when it first aired, audiences assumed it had been shot outside Nigeria. That assumption was itself a milestone. A Nigerian show had finally looked and felt like something the world was used to seeing from elsewhere, and audiences responded accordingly.
Eighteen years later, the show has become one of the defining cultural institutions of Nigerian television. It served as a launchpad for many of Africa’s best-known faces, including Gideon Okeke, Osas Ighodaro, Damilola Adegbite, Chris Attoh, Timini Egbuson, Joseph Benjamin, Blossom Chukwujekwu, and Femi Jacobs. The show aired its 1000th episode on 23rd May 2013, its 1500th on 23rd April 2015, its 2000th on 23rd March 2017, its 2500th on 21st February 2019, its 3000th on 21st January 2021, and marked its 3500th episode with a special documentary on 21st December 2022. The numbers alone tell the story of a production that has outlasted trends, platforms, and entire generations of viewers.
Season 19 brings major shifts to the Ade-Williams dynasty as the Reel Group faces unprecedented expansion and intense corporate sabotage, forcing key figures to navigate hostile takeovers and personal crises. Personal struggles and high-stakes criminal investigations interweave to test the resilience and relationships of long-standing characters. Season 19 makes clear that while some will survive the storm, nothing in the Tinsel universe will ever remain the same.
The new season continues to showcase an acclaimed ensemble cast featuring Ireti Doyle as Sheila Gardia, Dozie Onyiriuka as Freddy Ade-Williams, Linda Ejiofor as Bimpe, Ibrahim Suleiman as Damini, Iyke Okechukwu as Chuks, and Florence Uwaleke Okechukwu as Ene. The show has also created real-life love stories among its cast, with Linda Ejiofor and Ibrahim Suleiman meeting on set and getting married, as did Iyke Ukechukwu and Florence Uwaleke.
