The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), in collaboration with the organisers of Black Market, has announced extended train and Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) services ahead of the film’s planned 50,000-person screening at Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos.
The extended services will operate from September 26 into September 27, 2026, with trains and BRT buses running until 6:00 am to help transport attendees before and after the large-scale screening.
The announcement comes as preparations continue for the Black Market event, which is being organised as an attempt to set a new Guinness World Records record for the largest audience at a film screening in a single location.
The Lagos Rail Mass Transit Blue Line will operate along the Mile 2, Alaba, Iganmu, National Theatre and Marina route. At Marina, BRT buses will be stationed around the terminal to transport passengers directly to Tafawa Balewa Square, the venue for the screening.
Eight BRT corridors have also been outlined, connecting TBS with different parts of Lagos.
The first corridor will run from Ikorodu through Mile 12, Ketu, Ojota, Maryland, Palmgrove, Anthony, Onipanu, Fadeyi, Barracks, Stadium and Costain before terminating at TBS. Another will connect Ojodu Berger, Alapere, Gbagada and Oworoshoki with the venue.
A third corridor will serve Yaba, Adekunle and Oyingbo, while another will connect Oshodi with Anthony, Charley Boy, Gbagada and Oworoshoki before reaching TBS.
The transport plan also covers the Mile 2 axis, with a route running through Suru/Alaba, Coker, Alafia, Orile and Costain. A longer corridor will connect Okokomaiko and communities around LASU, Iyana Iba and the Ojo axis with Mile 2 before continuing towards TBS.
Passengers travelling from the Lekki axis will also have a dedicated corridor covering Ajah, VGC, Ikota, Chevron, Igboefon, Agungi, Jakande, Chisco, Elegushi, Ikate, Lekki Phase 1, Sandfield/Oriental, 1004, Law School, Oniru and Bonnycamp before terminating at TBS.
The extended transport schedule is particularly significant given the number of people expected at the screening. With the organisers targeting an audience of 50,000, transportation has become an important part of planning for an event that will bring a large number of people to one location in Lagos.
Black Market is a crime drama from Rixel Studios, directed by Fatimah Binta Gimsay. The film features an ensemble cast including Lateef Adedimeji, Linda Ejiofor-Suleiman, Itele D Icon, Nora Awolowo, Scarlet Gomez, Omowunmi Dada, Teniola Aladese, Susan Pwajok, Uzor Arukwe, Folagade Banks and Tomiwa Tegbe.
The story centres on five market women involved in cross-border smuggling whose business is thrown into turmoil after the daughter of one of them is kidnapped by a rival. The film explores the criminal network surrounding the women and the consequences that follow when their operation is disrupted.
The planned screening is also tied to a Guinness World Records attempt. The organisers are targeting more than 43,624 attendees, the figure associated with the existing record for the largest audience at a film screening in a single location. That record was set in 2015 during a screening of Felix Manalo at the Philippine Arena in the Philippines.
In August, the Black Market team, led by producer Nora Awolowo, met with the Lagos State Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Toke Benson-Awoyinka, as part of efforts to secure government support for the planned screening. The Lagos State Government subsequently expressed its support for the event.
With the Blue Line and eight BRT corridors now scheduled to operate into the early hours of September 27, the organisers have put a major transportation component in place for the thousands of people expected to attend the screening.
Black Market is scheduled to hold its 50,000-person screening on September 26, 2026, at Tafawa Balewa Square in Lagos.
