Something big is coming. That is all Funke Akindele and FilmOne Entertainment have told us so far, and honestly, that is enough to get the conversation started.
Both Akindele and FilmOne posted the same image on their respective social media pages within hours of each other, a moody behind-the-scenes photograph of a woman seated in a director’s chair, her back to the camera, wearing a red jacket emblazoned with the words A Funke Akindele Network Production (FAAN). No title. No cast. No date. Just the image, and FilmOne’s caption: “Something big is coming. Proudly distributed by FilmOne Entertainment.”
Coordinated teaser posts between a filmmaker and their distributor almost always signal an imminent announcement, and given Funke Akindele’s track record, the anticipation is entirely justified.
Her most recent cinema release, Behind the Scenes, which she produced and co-directed with Tunde Olaoye and which starred Scarlet Gomez, Uzor Arukwe, Destiny Etiko, Ini Dima-Okojie, and Mr Macaroni among others, was released in December 2025 and distributed by FilmOne. Before that, Everybody Loves Jenifa, directed by Akindele and Tunde Olaoye and distributed by FilmOne, was released in December 2024. A Tribe Called Judah, released in December 2023, was also produced by FAAN and distributed by FilmOne. The pattern of December releases and the consistency of her partnership with FilmOne has become one of the most reliable rhythms in the Nollywood calendar.
Whether this new project continues that December tradition or signals something outside the usual release window remains to be seen. What is clear is that Funke Akindele is already in production, FilmOne is already on board, and whatever they are building together is far enough along to start teasing publicly.
