Some films do not just get remade. They get resurrected. Agbara Nla is one of them, and the first official images from its return have just landed.
Blue Pictures Distribution, alongside Mount Zion Film Productions, Circuits, and Sozo Films, has released the first-look images of Agbara Nla: The Return, confirming that the film will arrive in cinemas nationwide on October 1, 2026.
For anyone who did not grow up on Mount Zion productions, a little context helps. Agbara Nla was created in 1993 by Evangelist Mike Bamiloye, known in English as The Ultimate Power, and it became one of the defining films in Nigeria’s Christian cinema movement. Set in the village of Abule Muwonleru, the story followed intense spiritual confrontations between witchcraft, marine spirits, and demonic forces on one side, and prayer, faith, and evangelism on the other. It was the kind of film people watched on VHS, or crowded around a neighbour’s television for, because it aired on stations that reached households no other Christian content could touch. Many viewers still talk about the impression it left, some crediting it directly with their own conversion.
More than three decades later, Agbara Nla: The Return picks the story back up. The film is set after the events of the original, as a darkness that had gone quiet in Abule Muwonleru begins to stir once again. Mike Bamiloye returns to the role that made him a name in Nigerian film, Isawuru, but this time the direction sits with his children. Damilola Mike-Bamiloye and Joshua Mike-Bamiloye, known widely as JayMikee, are co-creating and directing the film together. JayMikee began as a background music producer for Mount Zion at just fourteen years old and has since built a career of his own as a gospel singer and producer. Damilola also takes on a role in front of the camera, playing Kola, alongside Philip Olubakin as Olaboye and Aanu Kolade Abiodun as Bose.
Production is being led by Chris Odeh, with Mohammed Sedik and Damilola Bamiloye serving as co-producers. What makes this project stand out is not just the story returning, but who is carrying it. Mount Zion Film Productions brings the legacy and the original vision. Sozo Films brings a contemporary filmmaking style built for modern cinema screens. Circuits, described as Africa’s leading virtual cinema platform, is working alongside Blue Pictures Distribution to make sure the film reaches audiences across Nigeria on a proper theatrical run, not a YouTube premiere or a television slot.
That distinction matters more than it might seem at first. Agbara Nla built its name on television and tape. Agbara Nla: The Return is walking straight into Nigerian cinemas, competing for screen time the same way any major Nollywood release would. It is a statement that a faith-based story, done with real production value, belongs on the big screen alongside anything else coming out this year.
