Directors Guild of Nigeria Opens Application for New Membership in August 2026 Supplementary Admission Exercise
If you are a film, television, digital, or media director in Nigeria who has been waiting for the right time to formalise your professional standing, that time is now. The Directors Guild of Nigeria has opened applications for its August 2026 Supplementary Admission Exercise, inviting directors across the country to apply for membership of Nigeria’s only approved professional body for film and television directors.
Founded in 1999, the Directors Guild of Nigeria is the apex guild in the audio-visual sector of Nigeria’s creative industries, serving as the umbrella professional body for film and television directors in the Nigerian motion picture industry. The guild is currently in its 9th presidential administration, led by President Uche Agbo, who succeeded Dr. Victor Okhai after winning the guild’s general election across seven zones of the association. Under Agbo’s leadership, the guild has been repositioning itself as a more active and globally visible institution. Earlier this year, the DGN unveiled its inaugural DGN Awards and Directors’ Week, a four-day industry gathering designed to celebrate directing excellence, boost professional development, and position Nigerian filmmakers globally, with award categories spanning Drama, Comedy, Epic and Cultural Themes, TV Series, Animation, Web Series, Documentary, Student Director, Emerging Female Director, and Best First Time Director among others.
The screening for the August 2026 admission exercise holds on Saturday 8th August 2026 in a hybrid format, meaning applicants can participate either in person or online. The physical venue is 15 Simisola Street, Off Olufemi Street, Ogunlana Drive, Surulere, Lagos. Applicants who are unable to attend physically may opt for the virtual screening option.
Membership of the DGN is not merely a certificate. It represents formal recognition within Nigeria’s regulated creative industry, access to a professional network of directors across the country, eligibility for industry opportunities, guild protections, and participation in the kind of structured professional development that has historically separated those who build lasting careers from those who do not.
