Nigerian-British filmmaker Diana Childs has landed an official selection at the Abuja International Film Festival (AIFF) for her new short film, "I Am Fine," made under her own outfit, DC Productions. Childs wrote, produced and directed the project herself.
"I Am Fine" follows Lena, a woman who looks, from the outside, like she has it all: a loving family, close friends, children she tucks in every night. But underneath, she is falling apart quietly, hiding behind the same three words whenever anyone checks on her. The film tracks the small signs nobody catches, the long silences, the empty stares, the sleepless nights, because Lena never once asks for help. It ends with the people closest to her left questioning everything they thought they knew about her.
This is not Childs' first time putting out work that hits close to the bone. Earlier in 2026, her film Mirrors, which she wrote, produced and starred in alongside actor Kunle Remi, picked up a placement on Prime Video, a two-hander carried entirely by just both of them on screen. Before that, she wrote and produced 143, a 2024 romance drama directed by Jide "Jblaze" Oyegbile, starring Tina Mba and Uzor Arukwe, about an older woman's relationship with a younger man. She also runs Diana Childs TV on YouTube, where she puts out original content under DC Productions.
AIFF was founded in 2003 by Nigerian filmmaker Fidelis Duker and is now run by Temitope Duker as Festival Director. It is one of Africa's longest-running film festivals, pulling in around 10,000 submissions a year across feature, short, documentary and student film categories. The 23rd edition holds October 27 to 31, 2026, in Abuja, where "I Am Fine" will screen in the Short Film category.
