StarCity Multimedia Limited has issued a public notice asserting copyright ownership of the film "Double Decoy," naming Oluwafemi Isaac Akinsipe as Principal Director and formally putting Nnamdi Odunze on notice over the film's distribution. The notice, dated October 16, 2026, was jointly issued by the company's executive producers, Dixon Igoni and Igoni Igoni.

The notice states that StarCity Multimedia holds the copyright and exclusive economic rights in "Double Decoy," citing Section 28 of the Copyright Act 2022. It describes the released version of the film as comprising approximately 75 percent newly produced footage directed by Akinsipe, alongside less than 30 percent original footage associated with Odunze and Edna C. Njoku, who are credited in the notice as Unit Directors. The notice names Circuits TV as the distributor authorised by StarCity Multimedia to release the film, and states that the company will address any third-party claims in line with its contractual obligations. It also puts Odunze, and any other person, on notice to desist from what it calls unlawful interference with the film's distribution or commercial exploitation, stating that failure to do so would lead the company to pursue legal remedies in court.

Nollywoodcv reached Odunze for comment and he disputed several of the claims in the notice. He said he personally directed between 70 and 80 percent of the footage in the version now being prepared for release, with the remaining 20 to 30 percent contributed by another party he declined to name on legal advice. This runs contrary to the percentages stated in StarCity Multimedia's notice. He also said the title cleared by the National Film and Video Censors Board is "Double Dekoi," and questioned the censorship status of the "Double Decoy" version due for release. On the question of credit, he said industry convention, which he also teaches as a film lecturer, holds that a later contributor to a production should be credited as an additional director rather than displacing the original directors. He denied any financial wrongdoing in connection with the film, saying he was not paid directly because of his ownership stake in StarCity Multimedia, under an arrangement where all partners would share proceeds from the film's sale.
