Rixel Studios has unveiled its sophomore feature film, Black Market, starring Lateef Adedimeji and Linda Ejiofor-Suleiman, with an ambitious plan to break a Guinness World Record at its premiere on 26th September 2026 at Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos.
The film is directed by Fatimah Binta Gimsay and written by Abdul Tijani-Ahmed and Gimsay. It was shot in Abeokuta and is being produced in collaboration with Filmone Studios and Switch Visuals Production. The full cast includes Lateef Adedimeji, Linda Ejiofor-Suleiman, Itele D Icon, Scarlet Gomez, Omowunmi Dada, Teniola Aladese, Susan Pwajok, Uzor Arukwe, Folagade Banks, Tomiwa Tegbe, Andrew Yaw Bunting, Shamz Garuba, and Adeoluwa Akintoba.
The Guinness World Record attempt centres on hosting 50,000 people at the premiere in a single location, which would surpass the current world record of 43,000 people attending a film screening at one venue. The premiere at Tafawa Balewa Square has been selected as the venue for this historic attempt.
Black Market is the second feature film from Rixel Studios, the production company founded by Nora Awolowo, one of the most exciting young voices currently reshaping the economics and creative architecture of Nollywood. Awolowo, who started out as a smartphone photographer and built her career through documentaries and commercial work for brands including FIFA, Canon, and Guinness, made history in 2025 when her debut feature film Red Circle became the first Nollywood film produced by someone under 30 to cross the one hundred million naira mark at the box office. Released on 6th June 2025 and distributed by FilmOne Entertainment, Red Circle earned 33.8 million naira in its opening weekend and crossed 101.8 million naira by the third week of release, making Awolowo the youngest Nigerian filmmaker to achieve that milestone at the time.
Speaking on Black Market, Awolowo said the production reflects the team’s determination to push creative boundaries while building on lessons from their previous outing. She described the project as a continuation of a philosophy that has defined Rixel Studios from the beginning, one that prizes clarity, intention, and collaboration over scale for its own sake.
Chief Content Officer of Filmone Studios, Ladun Awobokun, described the Guinness World Record attempt as more than a film marketing exercise, calling it an opportunity to make history and project Nigerian creativity and Nollywood to a global audience. Damilola Osikoya, Chief Executive Officer of Switch Visuals Production, added that the project demonstrates what becomes possible when young creatives challenge convention through collaboration and bold thinking.
Director Fatimah Binta Gimsay said the cast and crew were united from the first day of production by a shared determination to make something genuinely entertaining and worth sharing with the world.
