Adekunle Lawal

Lawal Adekunle McDouglas is a Nigerian filmmaker, director, producer, and storyteller committed to creating films that entertain, challenge perspectives, and preserve African culture. His work explores themes of identity, spirituality, social issues, and the complexities of human relationships through visually compelling and emotionally grounded storytelling. Beginning his filmmaking journey in 2016, Lawal has worked across multiple roles in production, including production assistant, sound recordist, and director, giving him a practical understanding of every stage of the filmmaking process. He is the Creative Director of Blackbishop Productions, where he develops narrative films, documentaries, and commercial content with a strong emphasis on authentic African stories. His directing credits include Koi Koi: The Myth, which received multiple award nominations and earned him recognition as Best Director (West Africa) at the Toronto International Nollywood Film Festival. His recent projects include the YouTube narrative feature Until I Break, the festival short Voice of the River, and the mystery thriller House of Lies, currently in development. Driven by a passion for visual storytelling, Lawal believes that every frame should serve a purpose and every story should leave a lasting impression. Whether directing fiction, documentaries, or branded films, he approaches each project with a commitment to cinematic excellence, emotional honesty, and meaningful storytelling that resonates across cultures.
